The day before Thanksgiving and two families are without a home. An early morning fire forces two Jefferson County families out of their homes. The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. at a home on Wind Swept Estates Drive here in Imperial. When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed with the roof completely burned off. Siding melted on a neighboring home, but fire crews were able to keep the flames from spreading.

"Crews were able to put the fire under control. We did have to strike a 2nd alarm to be able to take the fire under control," said Chief John Newsome of the Antonia Fire Protection District.

"All family members were evacuated from the structures safely, and are in the hands of the Red Cross right now getting assistance," Newsome said.
