It's now down to one. Macy's is closing this weekend and the only remaining anchor store – Sears – is expected to close when its lease expires next month. Over the last decade, the slow demise of Northwest Plaza has had a profound effect on the Pattonville School District. At one time, Northwest Plaza pumped millions of dollars into the schools. Now it's down to about $700,000, and most of that money comes from property taxes, not sales tax.

The district has made adjustments to cope with the declining revenue. It's not replacing non-essential employees, and it's cut spending in non-essential areas.
