A 2-year-old boy is recovering at Cardinal Glennon Children's hospital after being hit by a stray bullet in Madison, Illinois. He was sitting in his grandfather's lap when a bullet flew through the window of their home around 5:30p.m. Thursday, apparently the result of a drive-by shooting where the gunman missed his target. Police say a car was driving down Fourth Street in Madison when someone inside opened fire on a group of people walking down the street. They didn't hit whoever was their target.

The bullet then traveled about 300 yards, two blocks according to officers, going through the window of the house on second and striking the small boy.

"It's the innocent ones who always seem to get hurt," Chief Steven Shelby said. Shelby suspects drugs might be the related, but says he's not certain as of yet.

Police say the child's injuries aren't life threatening.
