ROCK HILL, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com)—
All lanes of traffic are now open and water has been restored on Manchester Road in Rock Hill, but the aftermath of an early morning water main break impacted traffic in the area for much of the day and into the evening. Manchester was closed to westbound traffic for several hours, and only one lane of eastbound traffic was getting through. The break happened just east of McKnight Road. On the west side of the problem area, traffic was diverted at Bremington. The break happened about 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning as temperatures dipped below 20 degrees. MoDOT officials say it appears there were actually two breaks, one in a six inch line and the other in a nearby 12 inch line. It took about three hours to isolate the area of the break and get the water turned off. That stopped what had been a steady flow of water into the street. The pavement on Manchester also buckled in a couple of spots.
Workers at nearby businesses were somewhat surprised upon arriving Wednesday morning to find the road torn up and access to their buildings somewhat limited.
