MADISON COUNTY, IL (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - A Granite City couple was charged with the suffocation death of their infant son. Donald R. Miller, 22, and Heather N. Smith, 20, both of the 600 block of Chouteau in Granite City, were charged in Madison County Circuit Court with felony charges of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery to a Child. Around 4:00am on October 26, Madison County Sheriff's Deputies responded to 605 Chouteau Ave. in Granite City after a 911 call for a deceased infant. The infant was identified as the defendants' 3 month old child, Ashton Miller.

An autopsy revealed that the infant died as a result of suffocation. The autopsy also discovered multiple bruises on the infant's body.

His parents are accused of putting the baby face down to sleep on the couch knowing it could hurt or kill him. Both were reportedly warned not to put the baby face down on the couch.

Bond on each is set at $1,000,000.00.
