FAIRMONT CITY, IL (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - Guests of the Royal Relax Inn were in shock on Sunday when police responded to the Fairmont City motel for a suspicious death. On Monday, Major Jeff Connor, Major Case Squad deputy commander, identified the victim as Octavio Contreras, a 33 year old Hispanic male, from Rolla, MO. Preliminary autopsy results indicate Mr. Contreras died as the result of a gun shot wound.

Fairmont City police requested help from the Major Case Squad which activated its detectives and determined the victim was murdered. Nearly a dozen detectives began questioning guests and searched areas around the motel as if they were looking for any sort of clue.

"We do have reason to believe this was a homicidal death," said Connor.

Anastaco Bostes is guest at the motel and said he was now worried about his own safety.

Police are asking for help while releasing few details.

There is one clue that could hold the answer. Surveillance cameras are all around the motel complex and police poured over those images in hopes one of the cameras caught a killer on tape.

"That's always a possibility," said Connor.

Major Connor went on to say the investigation was just beginning. The Major Case Squad is asking for the public's help with this investigation and asks anybody that knows Mr. Contreras to contact the Fairmont City Police Department. 618-874-1751
