Investigators remain tight-lipped about a murder investigation in Sunset Hills. They continue to withhold specifics about the victim, how she died, where she was killed, or why. Wednesday, St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCullough did try to reassure nervous residents of the area that, despite the secrecy, there is not risk to public safety.

The Major Case Squad was activated Tuesday to look into the killing, which police do confirm happened Saturday. Sunset Hills Police Chief William LaGrand officially labeled it a 'suspicious death'. He said a woman's body was found outdoors but, as of late Tuesday night, he said he would release very little information beyond that.

"We investigated the death of a 49-year-old female," LaGrand said. "There were some suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. We investigated further and developed further information and late this afternoon we activated the Major Case Squad to assist us in the investigation. A lot of the information you want, we believe right now would compromise things if it was released. That's why we're not releasing it."

He would not release her name. He would not say how she died. Sources said it was initially reported as a sick case over the weekend. That changed after autopsy results came back Tuesday.

LaGrand specifically said he did not want to release the address where she was found. He said he understood people who live in Sunset Hills would want to know, but to release it Tuesday night would compromise the investigation.

He would not say whether police had identified a suspect.

He expected there to be another briefing Wednesday morning, unless there was a major break in the case, for instance, an arrest.
