NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI-FOX2Now.com)—
The difference between what can be accomplished with a hand tool as opposed to a hang gun is profound. This weekend hundreds of volunteers will try to show how home improvement can improve the quality of life in a violent neighborhood. It's part of a joint project between the city and a not for profit group called Rebuilding Together. They're rebuilding North St. Louis' 21st ward using a $300,000 grant and hundreds of volunteers.
The 21st ward has been a very violent place lately. The alderman who put together this program believes it can also act as a crime stopper.
The plan is to work on one block once a month for six months. This weekend they plan to work on 14 homes in the 4000 block of Taylor. Many of the volunteers expected here Saturday are from Boeing.
