A seventeen year old who police believe knew his victim is now charged with murder in a double shooting in Overland. Brandon Davis is charged will killing 31 year old Duane Woodson on Monday. Woodson's girlfriend was also injured in the attack. Police say it appears the teen was trying to rob Woodson.
After working 18 straight hours following a murder near Overland, St. Louis County Police announced the arrest of the suspect. Brandon Davis faces several charges, including murder.
Police say he shot and killed Duane Woodson, 31, and wounded his girlfriend after knocking on the door to their town home on Monday night. Their two children, ages 4 and one were inside but not hurt.
"The intention here was a robbery of the victims and that obviously went bad and escalated," said Lt. Tom Lakin, St. Louis County Police.
Police say Davis pulled out a shotgun and killed Woodson with one pull of the trigger.
"What's really kind of alarming about this homicide is that the suspect is only 17 years old," said Chief Timothy Fitch, St. Louis County Police.
"That's bad, really bad," said Trenice Shanklan, neighbor.
She's alarmed over the news a 17 year old is in custody but relieved an arrest is made.
"We're seeing younger and younger suspects in crimes I've think we've seen it around the country and we're certainly not immune to it in the St. Louis area," said Fitch.
"They don't have any discipline if it don't start at home then you won't get it," said Shanklan.
Chief Fitch was encouraged that witnesses cooperated. He says it's a sign they don't think it's snitching to put a young, accused killer behind bars.
