POTOSI, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
A Washington County great-great grandfather is in hiding out of fear for his life. James Litherland was wounded in September while standing on his own property near Potosi. That didn't scare Litherland off but on Sunday his son Jerry Litherland was shot and killed on the same property.
"I'm madder than all hell," said James Litherland.
His family is more than angry; they are also puzzled and scared.
"How can any of us feel safe going down the street anymore this is ridiculous," said Gee Gee Meyer, James Litherland's daughter.
She's taking her dad into hiding for as long as it takes Washington County Investigators to give her some answers.
"We don't know what it's about we don't know what it's pertaining we can't pinpoint it on anything," said Meyer.
Jerry Litherland was a concrete worker. His dad says his son had a heart of gold.
"If he had a half a day off and somebody needed help cutting wood or put up a fence or whatever he'd go help them," said James Litherland.
"We want something done my family wants something done," said Meyer.
Jerry's father is so upset he even warned investigators that if they make an arrest they better keep an eye on the suspect.
"If you don't lock him up and throw away the key and I get to him -- he's dead," said James Litherland.
Family members believe there is some connection between the two attacks but for now they don't know what it could be. The Washington County Sheriff's Department declined to comment on their investigation.
