MADISON COUNTY, IL (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
"I miss him and I want him back," said a tearful Mary Morrison-Price. The Madison County farm owner is on a frantic search for a 17-year-old horse she says was stolen. Whiskers was once a prize winning show horse but for the last 6 years has helped riders at the Liberty Prairie Farm near Edwardsville learn about horses. He's also gone on some long journeys with his owner. Morrison-Price has ridden her Half-Arabian, Half Saddlebred gelding for dozens of miles at a time.
"I haven't slept or ate since I found out about it," said Morrison-Price. "I have no children so this is my child."
Sunday morning is when she realized Whiskers was gone. "We have no idea, we just don't know why anybody would do it," said Kevin Price, Mary's husband.
Liberty Prairie Farm sits off Highway 140 and has been around for 100 years.
"Horse people don't do this to horse people if they're a true horse person," said Morrison-Price.
Whiskers is not micro chipped or tattooed. "Just his color and his personality are his defining marks," said Price. He is brown with large white patches.
He helps riders learn about horses and now his owners hope horse groups around the country will keep an eye out for Whiskers. "Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee I mean you name it," said Morrison-Price. The Prices are also offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest. "He's very well trained and I miss him terribly," said Morrison-Price.
Madison County detectives are also investigating. Anyone with information can contact an anonymous tip line at 618-296-3000.
