EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI - FOX2now.com) -
An attempted robbery turns deadly in East St. Louis. Police say several armed suspects forced their way into the Quality Food Market near 10th and Bond Avenue around 4:30 a.m. Thursday and demanded cash. A store clerk opened fire hitting one suspect in the chest. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. The other suspects took off and got into a car waiting outside the store.
Police are still looking for those men. This latest shooing happened just a few blocks from where a 5 year old little girl was hit by a stray bullet on Tuesday. Meanwhile, city officials have announced a violence prevention forum. It scheduled for Monday at New Horizon Community Church, 3315 Summit Avenue.
Officials wanted to hold the forum after a rise in violent crime including the recent death of three women who were shot in front of their children. The forum starts at 6 p.m. Officials from the U.S. Department of Justice, Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, Illinois State Police and Crimestoppers will also participate.
