ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI - FOX2now.com) -
Disgusting conditions have led to the closure of a residential care facility in far west St. Louis County. Now the family of one of the residents is speaking out. The county closed the place down Monday. More than two dozen residents were moved out. An inspection last year by state health officials shows the facility has had a number of problems.
Mary London says her 36 year old son has schizophrenia and has been living at Whispering Oaks for several months. But she moved him out last week when he complained of no hot water.
"My son's bed looks pretty crumby," London said. "I was going to call today and find out who's in charge of his linens."
Monday the only water line froze. Toilets wouldn't flush and human waste was on the floors. Those conditions, termed "appalling" by County Executive Charlie Dooley, led to the closure.
