FARMINGTON, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com)—
Some street crews are already preparing for the worst and school districts are wondering whether Friday will be a lost day. Farmington, Missouri appears to be one of the locations in the cross hairs of this big winter storm. The trucks at the Farmington street department being filled with a mixture of salt and limestone. They have about 200 tons ready to go.
Street crews plan on taking the trucks out on the road just as soon as the snow begins to arrive. They have seven snow plows here and three tucks that can drop the salt mixture out on the road.
They expect the snow to begin falling after midnight, and that's when crews will be out in force.
It's been a busy day at the hardware store where lots of shovels and salt are selling. Apparently a lot of kids are expecting a snow day Friday because they've sold out of sleds.
The school district has already had three snow days.
District officials will be watching the weather closely and testing the roads in the morning. The Farmington district covers a big area - 300 square miles - so even if one part of the district has icy roads, school will likely be cancelled.
The bottom line is student safety comes first.
