JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri senators have approved the former Kansas commerce chief to serve as Missouri's economic development director.

David Kerr was confirmed Tuesday by senators without any discussion or objections. He had served as Kansas secretary of commerce from 2007 until his appointment by Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon. He replaces Linda Martinez, Nixon's original pick for the position who resigned in September over an apparent disagreements with the governor.

Kerr was president of AT&T Kansas from 2003 to 2007.
