ST. LOUIS (AP) — For soul food chef Robbie Montgomery, life just got a little sweeter.

Montgomery's St. Louis-area restaurant was awarded $425,000 in state incentives Wednesday that will allow her to have a so-called brownfield property cleaned up for redevelopment.

Montgomery owns two Sweetie Pie's restaurants in the St. Louis area. She plans a third new restaurant, bakery and banquet space that will create 59 new jobs.

Gov. Jay Nixon was in St. Louis Wednesday to announce the effort to create jobs and help small businesses.

Brownfield properties are sites that are contaminated with hazardous substances and are abandoned or underutilized.
