KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police in Kansas City, Missouri arrested another suspect, Larry Kidd, in the gruesome child sex crime case out of Bates City, Missouri on Thursday night. A close friend of Kidd's said the arrest came as a surprise.

Kidd, 55, is the first person arrested who's not related to the Mohler family and he is expected to be charge in Lafayette County on Friday. Police are only calling him an "associate" of the Mohler family, the father and four sons who now face charges of rape and sodomy against young children.

"When I looked out the window and saw a whole line of police cars lined up," friend Harry Crisson said.

Unaware what was about to happen, Crisson opened the door on Thursday night.

"They asked if Larry was here and I said yes," Crisson said.

Nearly an hour later, Kidd was in handcuffs and on his way to Lafayette County.

"Larry has been outstanding in the community," Crisson said.

Crisson said he cannot understand this possible connection between Kidd and the case.

"The man is awesome," Crisson said. "I consider him one of my best friends, this has taken me by surprise. He has never showed any inclination in that regard ever."

But police feel differently and Kidd was arrested for rape of a child under 14.

Burell Mohler, Sr; Burell Edward Mohler, Jr; Jared Mohler; Roland Mohler and David Mohler are accused of bestiality, sodomy, forcing kids into fake marriages and making an 11-year-old have an abortion between 1988 and 1995.

FOX 4 has learned at Kidd's been in and out of the jail for drug abuse and burglary, but close friends said he has spent the past 11 years turning his life around.

"The man does not have a stellar past but that is what he was trying to overcome, that is what he was trying counseling, nothing like this came up," Crisson said.
