CLAYTON, MO (KTVI - FOX2now.com) -
The You Paid For It team confronted St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley over a trash program a citizens' group wants canned. Investigator Elliott Davis explains how this deal could cost you millions.
Cathy Armbruster heads a group called Citizens Against Monopoly Trash Haulers. They've filed a class action lawsuit against the County saying citizens should have been able to vote on whether they wanted the trash program.
County Executive Dooley says, "People are happy about it. Some people are unhappy about it. There will be some losers. There's no question about it."
Dooley says County residents have lower bills as a result of the 2006 program and so they've saved money. Dooley insists they're able to dispose of trash more efficiently and with fewer trucks rolling through neighborhoods.
But Lester Stuckmeyer, the lawyer for citizens suing to scrap this deal, says this fight over the program could have been avoided.
"The County charter requires that a vote should have been taken before the enactment of this program therefore if the vote wasn't taken it's an illegal program."
