Rasmus Homer Beats Bell, Gives Cardinals 7-5 Win Over Padres
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Colby Rasmus' two-run homer capped a three-run ninth inning off Padres All-Star closer Heath Bell, giving the St. Louis Cardinals a 7-5 victory and a three-game sweep on Sunday. Adrian Gonzalez hit his 32nd homer and singled three times for the Padres, who have lost five straight and have dropped nine in a row in St. Louis.

Forced to sit through two rain delays that totaled two hours and 19 minutes, and down a run in the ninth against Padres All-Star closer Heath Bell, the Cardinals somehow did it again Sunday. They tied it on an RBI single by catcher Yadier Molina and won it a batter later on a two-run walk-off homer by rookie Colby Rasmus. Down but not out, the Cardinals pulled out what may be their signature win of 2009.

"Kind of magical," admitted manager Tony La Russa.

The come-from-behind win was the Cardinals eighth win in their past nine games and moved them to a season-high five games in front of the rained-out Chicago Cubs in the National League Central.

Bell (4-2) lost in his first game in St. Louis since taking the loss in the All-Star game July 14, blowing only his second save in 31 chances and first since May 30 against the Rockies.

Trever Miller (4-0) had a strikeout in a scoreless ninth for the NL Central leaders, who have won eight of nine.
